CodexMap lets you find (and place!) books graphically, right on a map. Whether the book was added to the system by our harvester, or by another user, you can interact with a Google map to find books about all kinds of interesting places, ones you may well know and love (e.g. Rome), and strange ones you've probably never heard of (e.g. the Nazca Lines). You can add your own books, as well as apply location tags to any book in the system so others can find it.

Don't forget to go to the page for a particular book by clicking on the title or the map marker. For example, here's the page for The Da Vinci Code. From the book page, you can see all of locations for a book, a description (if we and Amazon have one), and interesting links to other places like Wikipedia location pages, or LibraryThing book pages.

Have specific questions about how to use the site? Check out the help page.

CodexMap relies on a number of interesting and useful web services. In particular, it obviously uses the Google Maps and Amazon APIs. More interestingly behind the scenes it makes use of the outstanding geonames.org service, under their Creative Commons license. We also link to Google Books as well as to one of our all-time favorites, Tim Spalding's wonderful LibraryThing.

As mentioned on my blog, my full time gig is now a cool new search engine for exploring new things to do in your free time, Goby.
